Serum Protein Test

Proteins are essential nutrients for our body that help in the normal functioning of the body organs. Our body contains two major types of proteins, namely albumin and globulin. Albumin protein is essential for the normal functioning of blood vessels. It is responsible for preventing fluid from leaking out from the blood vessels. Globulin, another vital protein, strengthens the body’s immune response. A protein test is done to check the amount of protein present in your body. It is done as part of routine check-ups and to rule out any liver, heart, and kidneys disease.

Protein Test at Maurya Labs is done on fully automatic analyzer for highest level of accuracy.

values given in cbc test

Components of Protein Test

The normal protein level in the body is 6-8.5gm/dl. Higher than normal levels may indicate Hepatitis, Cancer, Kidney disease during tests. Lower than normal levels can be due to chronic heart disease, Malnutrition etc. The normal Albumin-Globulin ratio is 1. Lesser values may indicate autoimmune disease, cirrhosis etc. Higher than average values can be due to Leukaemia etc. Normal protein levels are 6-8.5 mg/dl. If test results show levels lower than 6 mg/dl, it signifies that your protein levels are less than usual. This could indicate malnutrition or underlying bowel, kidney, liver, or heart disease.

In a healthy person

Normal Range of Albumin is 3.4-5.4 g/dl

Normal globulin range is 2.3-3.5 g/dl.

Low A/G Ratio might be the sign an autoimmune disorder, where your body’s immune system attacks healthy cells. It can also point to kidney disease or cirrhosis, which is inflammation and scarring of the liver. In some cases, a low A/G ratio can be a sign of a tumor in your bone marrow.
