This is a test to measure the level of hormone testosterone in the blood. Even though testosterone is called a male hormone, it is found in females also. In males this hormone is produced by testes while in females it is produced by the ovaries. The normal levels of testosterone in males is higher than in females. Testosterone helps in the growth of muscles, penis, testes and hair. It also contributes in making the voice heavier. Its boosts the sex drive and helps the sperms to mature. The pituitary gland in the brain controls the amount of testosterone your body makes. It does this by using other signaling hormones such as luteinizing hormone. Most of the testosterone in the blood attaches to 2 proteins: albumin and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). Some testosterone is not attached to proteins. This testosterone is called free testosterone. Free testosterone and albumin-bound testosterone are also referred to as bioavailable testosterone. This is the testosterone that is easily used by the body.
Testosterone Test at Maurya Labs, Purnia in Bihar is done on one of the most advanced Hormonal Assay.

In males, the test is done for erectile dysfunction, reduced sex drive, or inability to impregnate a partner. Low testosterone levels indicate a problem with the hypothalamus or pituitary gland, which controls the production of testosterone. In females, the test is used for missing periods, inability to get pregnant, hair growth on face or chest, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) causing higher testosterone levels.
Age, gender, health history and the test method can affect the test results. Normal total testosterone levels are 280 to 1,100 ng/dL for men, 15 to 70 ng/dL for women. Higher or lower results point towards the condition that affects testosterone production. Higher than normal results indicate the possibility of a tumour on the testes or ovaries.

What does the Testosterone Test Measure ?
A testosterone levels test measures the amount of testosterone in a sample of your blood. Testosterone is known as a "male" sex hormone, but females have testosterone in smaller amounts. During male puberty, testosterone causes body hair, muscle growth, and a deepening voice. In adult life, it controls sex drive, maintains muscle mass, and helps make sperm. In females, testosterone is important for the growth of bones and muscles, and healthy organs. Testosterone is made by
The testicles (or testes), the part of the male reproductive system that makes sperm.
The ovaries, the part of the female reproductive system that makes eggs.
The adrenal glands, organs on top of each kidney that make several hormones.
Why should I do the Testosterone Test ?
You may need this test if you have symptoms of abnormal testosterone levels. For males who have gone through puberty, the test is mostly used for symptoms of low Testosterone levels (testosterone levels which are too low). Testosterone levels tend to decrease with age. But other health issues may also cause low Testosterone, such as thyroid problems, long-lasting illness or problems with the testicles.
For females, the test is mostly used for symptoms of high T levels, such as:
Abnormal hair growth on the body or face.
Hair loss on the head that may be like male-pattern baldness .
Irregular or no menstrual periods.
Infertility.
