Proteins are essential nutrients for our body that help in the normal functioning of the body organs. Our body contains two major types of proteins, namely albumin and globulin. Albumin protein is essential for the normal functioning of blood vessels. It is responsible for preventing fluid from leaking out from the blood vessels. Globulin, another vital protein, strengthens the body’s immune response. A protein test is done to check the amount of protein present in your body. It is done as part of routine check-ups and to rule out any liver, heart, and kidneys disease.
Protein Test at Maurya Labs is done on fully automatic analyzer for highest level of accuracy.

The normal protein level in the body is 6-8.5gm/dl. Higher than normal levels may indicate Hepatitis, Cancer, Kidney disease during tests. Lower than normal levels can be due to chronic heart disease, Malnutrition etc. The normal Albumin-Globulin ratio is 1. Lesser values may indicate autoimmune disease, cirrhosis etc. Higher than average values can be due to Leukaemia etc. Normal protein levels are 6-8.5 mg/dl. If test results show levels lower than 6 mg/dl, it signifies that your protein levels are less than usual. This could indicate malnutrition or underlying bowel, kidney, liver, or heart disease.
In a healthy person
Normal Range of Albumin is 3.4-5.4 g/dl
Normal globulin range is 2.3-3.5 g/dl.

If test results show low protein levels, it may be due to liver, kidney, or heart disease.
Test results showing higher protein levels can signify cancer or hepatitis.
The albumin to globulin ratio variations indicates cancer, cirrhosis, or kidney disease.
Low A/G Ratio might be the sign an autoimmune disorder, where your body’s immune system attacks healthy cells. It can also point to kidney disease or cirrhosis, which is inflammation and scarring of the liver. In some cases, a low A/G ratio can be a sign of a tumor in your bone marrow.
High A/G Ratio can be a sign of disease in your liver, kidney, or intestines. It’s also linked to low thyroid activity and leukemia.

What does the Protien Test Measure ?
The total protein test measures your albumin and globulin levels. High levels may mean you have inflammation or infection. Low levels may suggest kidney problems, malnutrition, and several other possible conditions. This test will also look at the ratio of albumin to globulin in your blood. This is known as the “A/G ratio.”
Why should I do the Protein Test ?
Protein test is an important test to check for any kind of infection or inflamation in the body. It is especially important for patients with kidney, liver or heart disease. Even cancer patients need to keep checking the protein levels in the body which may lead to swelling in the body. During the chemotherapy the protein levels may go down and would need albumin transfusion.
- Protein tests may be a part of a routine check-up to monitor a comprehensive metabolic panel.
- Monitor recovery of people suffering from liver, kidney, and stomach related diseases.
- Protein test results can be helpful to know the cause of abnormal weight loss, nausea, swelling of body parts, difficulty in passing urine etc.
