It is a test to check for Tuberculosis (TB) of the lungs. No special preparation is required. It is not a definitive test but helps in diagnosis of TB
Adenosine Diaminase (ADA) test is done to check for excess of an enzyme known as adenosine deaminase (ADA) in our body. The excess production of this enzyme happens to fight the TB bacteria. When there is a TB infection in the lungs then there is excess production of this ADA enzyme which is required to activate the lymphocytes which are a type of White Blood Cells to fight the TB infection. This enzyme is found in the fluid collected from the lungs called Pleural Fluid.

The ADA test is done using the fluid from the lungs called pleural fluid. The fluid sample can be taken by the treating doctor at clinic/hospital or by pathologist at Maurya Labs. The test is done on a machine called Fully Automatic Immunoassay Analyzer Siemens Immulite 1000 from Germany which is the first and only one in entire Seemanchal region.

1 ADA ……..U/L
2 Normal Range – < 40 U/L
ADA test measures the amount of ADA enzymes in the pleural fluid or the fluid from lungs to further test for lung TB. The ideal value of the ADA test for both male and female should be less than 40 U/L.

What is ADA Test ?
An ADA test is done to check for the TB bacteria in the lungs. The ADA is a type of enzyme that is required to activate the Lymphocytes in the body, which is type of White Blood Cell. The test is done using the fluid from the lungs called pleural fluid which is extracted from the lungs by a doctor or pathologist. The excess levels of ADA in the fluid taken out from lungs “indicates” the presence of TB bacteria.
Why does ADA Test measure ?
ADA test measures the amount of ADA enzymes in the pleural fluid or the fluid from lungs to further test for lung TB. The ideal value of the ADA test for both male and female should be less than 40 U/L.
Why should I do ADA Test ?
ADA test could be prescribed by the doctor if the patient is having following symptoms:
Chronic cough
Fever with chills
Loss of appetite
Sudden weight loss
Fluid in the lungs
Lower Respiratory Tract Infection
These symptoms indicate towards lung TB which needs to be checked through certain tests. ADA alone is not a definitive test for TB. Ideally it is combined with CBC with ESR, Mantoux Test / TB Gold test for confirmation of TB.
How is ADA Test Done ?
The ADA is done using the fluid from the lungs called pleural fluid. The fluid sample can be taken by the treating doctor at clinic/hospital or by pathologist at Maurya Labs, Purnea the test is done on a machine called Fully Automatic Immunoassay Analyzer Siemens Immulite 1000 from Germany which is the first and only one in entire Seemanchal region.
