HIV Viral Load Test

HIV Viral Load Test done by real-time PCR Plasma at Maurya Labs Purnea, Bihar. This test can estimate the number of viral particles per unit of blood indicating the magnitude of infection and can help to assess the efficacy of treatment regimen. Almost all cases of AIDS globally occur due to HIV-1. HIV-2 is less infectious than HIV-1, with a five to ten-fold lower rate of heterosexual transmission and a 20-30-fold lower rate of transmission from mother to baby. An HIV viral load test is a type of HIV test that measures the amount of HIV genetic material in the blood. Testing a patient’s viral load can be used to diagnose an HIV infection, guide care, and monitor a patient’s response to treatment.

Components of HIV PCR Quantitative Test

If you have HIV, you can take HIV medicines that protect your immune system and help prevent you from getting AIDS. Medicines that treat HIV are called antiretroviral therapy (ART). ART can't get rid of HIV completely, so you'll need to take medicines for the rest of your life. But ART can control HIV and help you live a longer, healthier life.

Keeping your HIV viral load low is important for lowering your risk of complications with this type of infection. Having regular HIV viral load tests is an important part of making sure your HIV medicines are keeping your viral load low, so you stay healthy.

report of cbc test should contain these parameters

Reported Parameters

500–1,600 cells/mm3 – Normal - A negative or undetectable viral load means that you have so little HIV in your blood that the test can't find it. This means that your HIV medicines are working well to protect your immune system, and you are unlikely to spread HIV through sex. It does not mean you're cured. You must continue to take your medicines as prescribed to keep your HIV in control.

250–500 cells/mm3 – HIV infection present - A low viral load means your medicine is stopping the virus from growing and your infection is unlikely to get worse.

Under 200 cells/mm3 – AIDS - A high viral load means the virus is growing and your treatment is not working well. The higher the viral load, the more risk you have for infections and diseases related to a weak immune system. It may also mean you have a higher risk for developing AIDS. If your results show a high viral load, your provider will probably change your medicines.

Why should I do the HIV Quantitative Test ?

IA viral load test is needed to guide treatment decisions. If you have HIV, you'll probably start taking HIV medicines soon after your diagnosis.
