Why is fasting required for this test ?

Many tests in this package can be done without fasting also but one test which should be done in 12 hours of fasting is Lipid Profile. When we consume food, it gets converted in VLDL and Triglycerides raising their levels in the blood. This will distort the value of Total Cholesterol in the body. Thyroid function is best in the morning when we wake up and therefore this package should be done in the morning around 8 am with 12 hours of fasting. On the night before the test do not eat a heavy meal or consume alcohol. Alcohol will derange the Liver Function Test unless you consume alcohol every day.

How does High BP damage the kidneys ?

The nephrons in the kidneys are supplied with a dense network of blood vessels, and high volumes of blood flow through them. Over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure can cause arteries around the kidneys to narrow, weaken or harden. These damaged arteries are not able to deliver enough blood to the kidney tissue.

Kidneys have small, finger-like nephrons that filter your blood. Each nephron receives its blood supply through tiny hair-like capillaries, the smallest of all blood vessels. When the arteries become damaged, the nephrons don’t receive the essential oxygen and nutrients. Then the kidneys lose their ability to filter blood and regulate the fluid, hormones, acids and salts in the body.

This starts a vicious cycle as damaged kidneys fail to control blood pressure. Healthy kidneys respond to a hormone called aldosterone which is produced in the adrenal glands, to help the body regulate blood pressure. Kidney damage and uncontrolled high blood pressure contribute to a negative spiral. As more arteries become blocked and stop functioning, the kidneys eventually fail.
